Chipped Tooth Repair

Sometimes a chipped tooth can be an endearing trademark or a reminder of a particularly exciting time in one’s life. However, most people want their chipped tooth repaired. At Parklane Family Dentistry, we have a variety of general dentistry options for chipped tooth repair depending on the severity of the damage.

After thoroughly examining your chipped tooth, Dr. Vashisht will make a determination as to the best method of repair. In some instances, bonding is all that is required to restore the tooth to its previous appearance. In other cases, if the chip is severe or has extended beyond the enamel of the tooth, it is possible that Dr. Vashisht may recommend a crown.

Repairs to Cracked or Broken Teeth

Similar to a chipped tooth, the repair required for a cracked or broken tooth depends on the severity and type of crack or break the tooth has sustained. Not every tooth that is cracked can be repaired. If the crack extends below the gum line, the tooth may not be salvageable. The same is true for severe breaks.

However, when a tooth can be repaired, there are different ways to accomplish this. If part of a tooth has broken off cleanly and no decay is involved, there is a chance the tooth can simply be bonded back together. This is also true of certain cracks. A bonding material is placed on both parts of the crack, and the tooth is bonded, or in a sense, glued back together again.

More severe breaks may require a build-up of the tooth structure. This is usually done with white composite material that matches the color of the tooth. At other times, a crown may be placed on the tooth if the damage has compromised its strength and stability. Dr. Vashisht will recommend the best course of treatment to repair your cracked or damaged tooth.
